Geography provokes and answers questions about the natural and human worlds, using different scales of enquiry to view them from different perspectives. The Geography department aims to stimulate a sense of enquiry, which along with important geographical skills, will allow pupils to develop knowledge of places, an awareness of patterns and processes, and an understanding of environmental change and sustainable development.
The department uses the National Curriculum, Key Stage 2 as a starting point; however, schemes of work develop ideas and tasks that exceed the statutory requirements. Varied teaching methods stimulate children’s interest in both their surroundings and in the variety of human and physical conditions on the Earth’s surface and our teaching fosters in our pupils a sense of wonder at the beauty of the world around them.
We are also passionate about helping our children develop an informed concern about the quality of the environment and the future of the human habitat, as it is through an understanding of these issues that our children will grow in their sense of responsibility for the care of the Earth and its people
